3 Busted For Mining In Forest Reserve

THREE SUSPECTS have been apprehended while mining for gold in a forest reserve, which is against the laws of the country.

The trio, who are males, have since been identified by the police as Abubakar Sadiq, 26; Kofi Mbazua, 21; and Oseku Kwame, 32.

According to the Nkawie Divisional Police statement, which has been sighted by the paper, the suspects were nabbed while prospecting for gold in the Jimira Forest Reserve.

The police report indicated that the Forestry Rapid Team of the Nkawie Forestry Commission on July 17, 2025 around 10am learnt that some people were mining in the forest.

The Forestry Rapid Team members then stormed the forest and managed to arrest the three aforementioned suspects, who were prospecting for gold in the forest reserve.

The Forestry Rapid Team members, after the arrest, handed the three suspects to the Nkawie Divisional Police for investigations.

“Today, 17/07/25 at about 1000 hours, Emmanuel Andoh, Range Manager of Jimira Forest Reserve i/c the Forestry Rapid Team, all of Nkawie Forestry Commission, arrested and brought to the Nkawie DIV/CID suspects Abubakar Sadiq aged 26 years, Kofi Mbazua aged 21 years and Oseku Kwame aged 32 years.

“And reported that the above mentioned suspects were met today 17/07/25 at about 0500 hours within the timber concession of ‘2ii Company Ltd’ in the Jimira Forest Reserve, prospecting for gold, and their arrest, hence handing them over for necessary action,” the police report disclosed.

According to the police, the three suspects who are in police custody, would be interrogated further and sent to court to face the law.
