Three primary school boys, aged seven each, have died in a motor accident along the Akropong Akuapem to Mampong Akuapem road in the Eastern Region.
The three were together with other nine colleagues in a Nissan Almeri taxi driven by Erasmus Atiemo, heading home from school when the accident occurred.
According to information available to the Ghana News Agency, the victims were hit by a Toyota Camry taxi driven by Penry Boahen, age 24, on a section of the road opposite the Everflow Water Company at Mamfe Akropong on Tuesday, December 7.
The suspect was heading towards Mamfe Akuapim from Mampong Akuapim, unlawfully overtook a vehicle ahead of him which led to the crash.
The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, said all the passengers in the two vehicles were severely injured.
He said the passengers and their drivers were conveyed to the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital for treatment, however, three died and two were transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Ridge Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased are in the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital morgue for autopsy.
It must be, however, noted that Christmas is nearing and mostly, high number of motor accidents are recorded.
Drivers must observe all road signs and must be patient on the road to avoid road accidents.
