The burnt tankers
Three trucks containing fuel got burnt after a tanker exploded at Kpone, near Tema in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday.
Fortunately, no casualty was recorded following the swift intervention by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to bring the inferno, which started at the haulage truck yard, under control.
Some residents in the vicinity struggled to quench the fire before the arrival of the fire service personnel, who worked fervently to put out the fire within 40 minutes.
Reports said welders at the yard might have started the fire.
The three tankers, with registration numbers GB1488-12, AS 3975 V and GB 1491-12, burnt beyond recognition.
A total of six fire tenders from Ashaiman, Tema, DEVTRACO, Ghana Port and Harbour Authority (GPHA) managed to bring the situation under control.
Divisional Fire Officer (DFO) II, John Abeiku Blankson, Operation Officer at the DEVTRACO Fire Station, who briefed DAILY GUIDE, stated that they received a distress call around 10:30am.
According to him, when they arrived, two of the tankers were on fire which later spread to another truck.
He added that “when we first arrived and we saw the intensity of the fire, I called for assistance and the fire was quenched within 40 minutes.”
The operation officer noted that his outfit is yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
