4 Companies In Upper East Join 1D1F

Robert Ahomka Lindsay addressing the Implementation Teams members

Deputy Minister for Trade & Industry, Robert Ahomka Lindsay, has hinted that four companies have been approved to join a total of 323 businesses that are ready to take off under the ‘one district, one factory’ initiative by the end of 2018 across the country.

According to him, government is committed to ensuring that all 15 districts in the Upper East Region get their share from the ‘one district, one factory’ initiative by the end of 2020, as many more businesses are in talks with government and other stakeholders in the region for the needed assistance to take off.

Mr Ahomka Lindsay was speaking in an interview in Bolgatanga after he had launched the District Implementation Support (DIS) teams from all the 15 districts in the Upper East Region.

According to him, successive governments over the years have not been good at managing businesses and so government under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo is going to drive the ‘one district, one factory’ initiative through the private sector by creating the enabling business environment.

The four approved entities endorsed to start work in the Upper East by the end of May 2018 are Neat Meat Enterprise (to be located in Bawku West District), New Vision Agro (to be located in the Kassena-Nankana West District), Tylon Gray Ltd (to be located in Talensi) and the revamping of Upper Quarry Limited, which is also located in the Talensi District.

Mr Ahomka Lindsay told the various DIS teams to start work to ensure that all stumbling blocks are cleared for businesses to start work.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Bukari Ayine, called on traditional authorities in the region to be ready to release lands for the construction of structures to house the factories that will be built across the region.

He said, “This is how we can also contribute to the creation of jobs for our youth. When these factories start, many of our people will be gainfully employed to earn incomes to help themselves and their families.”

Mr Ayine urged all district and municipal chief executives in the region to be ready to provide all investment opportunities that are available in their respective areas at any given opportunity and advised that they engage their staff and citizenry to continue to searching for more.
