The immigrants arrested and repatriated

GHANA IMMIGRATION SERVICE (GIS) OFFICIALS in the Bono East Region, have intercepted forty-one people from Burkinabe Faso, who entered the country illegally through unapproved routes, and were on their way to various destinations.

They were arrested at the Tanoboase toll booth, on the Techiman-Kintampo Highway, on board a bus bearing registration number AS 5681, and driven by one Tahiru Adams.

All 41 have, however, been screened and repatriated to their country.

They had told investigators that they were farmers and were going to Kumasi and other parts of the country to engage in farming activities.

According to GIS officials, they entered the country through Bawka in Upper East Region.

The Regional the GIS commander, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, Enock Annor Abrokwa told DAILY GUIDE on phone that they comprised 22 adults and 19 children.

“Our strategy is to mount surveillance on the roads at dawn, so that all those who beat immigration at the border, using unapproved routes, and travelling to the south, definitely pass through Techiman.  So, by dawn, when they arrive we arrest and interrogate them,” he said.

“Two young girls among them, did not know exactly where they were going, but claimed that they were going down south, to be betrothed to suitors they do not even know,” he revealed, adding, “We have since sent them back to their country.”
