The suspects

The Baatsonaa Divisional Police Command has apprehended five persons who allegedly carried out robberies in the area.

The suspects are Mohammed Kasina, 22, Oteng Obour Samuel aka Blackie, 25, Kwabena Arko, 20, Kofi Anim Mohammed aka Soldier, 25 and Mohammed Awal, 19.

They were alleged to have raped some female victims in the course of the robbery operation.

Items retrieved from the suspects during the raid included cutlasses, talisman, four charms rings, two charm padlocks, six serviceable mobile phones and nine unserviceable mobile phones.

Seven victims, who were attacked by the suspects during the robbery operation, stormed the police station during an identification parade.

The Baatsona Divisional Police Commander ACP Felix Cosmos said since the creation of the division in 2015, armed robbery has been the main challenge.

Residential and street robberies are often carried out by the hoodlums using motor bikes in broad day light.

On October 6, 2017, through intelligence, police stormed Block Factory located at Lashibi Ramsar site to arrest Kofi Anim and Mohammed Kasina.

The suspects initially resisted arrest but the police overpowered them and brought them to the police station.

On October 9, 2017, Oteng Obour was also arrested and a wristwatch, which was identified by a victim during an identification parade, was also found on him.

The two others were also arrested at their various hideouts.

The seven victims also identified their mobile phones, laptops, jewelleries, among others, during the identification parade.

A female victim accused Kofi Anim Mohammed of raping her during the robbery attack.

Two females said Obour Samuel attempted to rape them but when he detected that they were menstruating, he spared them.

The suspects are in police custody assisting in investigations.

He called on victims of robbery attacks to travel to the station to identify the suspects.
