Information available to DGN Online indicates that Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in Tema has intercepted some 61 assorted foreign pistols at the Meridian Port Service terminal.
Two suspects, Asmin Abdulai Alhassan-35yrs and Eric Nana Amissah-33yrs have been arrested and in custody of the Tema Police, assisting in further investigations.
The arms were intecepetd by Revenue Officer Mosongo incharge of Preventive at Meridian Port Service Terminal through Chief Collector/Investigations of GRA of Customs Division in TEMA, reported that on same date at about 2am the Preventive Team intercepted three bags containing sixty-one pieces of assorted foreign pistols.
The interception was made when the Preventive team was examining a 40-footer Container of personal effects imported from Turkey into the country by a Turkey-based Shipper, one Emmanuel Owusu Ansah.
The container with content were billed to be received by Asmin Abdulai Alhassan and Eric Nana Amissah.
Nana Amissah was said to be in Turkey and supposedly own parts of the goods.
Meanwhile, the 61 pistols have been seized and stored by in the Armoury at CEPS Long Room, Tema under permanent armed police guards.
