The 1973 year group of the Ghana Senior High School, Tamale, has donated books and stationery worth over thousands of cedis to their alma mater to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the spokesperson of the group, Ahmed Tijani Gomda, said the donation was a way of the group giving back to their alma mater for the training given them during their days as students.

He said they had been able to climb to the high level in the social ladder and become responsible citizens as a result of the training and discipline given them in and around the walls of the school.

According to Ahmed Gomda, the books would go a long way to improve teaching, learning, the reading and research habits in students.

Receiving the items on behalf of the students and board of directors of the school, the headmistress of the school, Hajia Amina Musa, thanked the old students for the kind gesture and assured them that the items would be used for the purpose for which they were donated, adding that they would enhance teaching and learning among the students.

She called for more of such gestures towards the establishment of an ICT centre and library in the school.

Hajia Amina Musa said the school needs an improved infrastructure and a laboratory.

She was of the view that the double-track system had come to reduce the congestion in the school, saying the school would have been plunged into crisis but for the novelty.
