Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tosh FM in Ho, Anthony Dagbey, has been elected as the new Volta Regional Chairman of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) at the just-ended MUSIGA regional congress held in Ho last Saturday.

Other executives elected to work with the regional chairman include Stella Ganyo, vice chairman; Francis Dogbatse, secretary; Eureka Mottey, treasure; Akposu Lorne, organiser and Amegayibor Wise, welfare officer.

In an acceptance speech, he promised to work diligently with the new executives to ensure that musicians in the region earn their worth and the image of Volta music is elevated.

The chairman, known in the music scene as Tony D, mentioned that he would work tirelessly to “restore the image, pride and dignity of the union and also change the negative perception of Ghanaians about musicians.”

He disclosed that as part of his plans to build a vibrant union in the region, he would institute training programmes which would be aimed at sharpening the skills and understanding of the musicians on copyright and other related rights in order to reduce piracy and help increase the contributions of intellectual property owners to the global economy.

Tony D, who is also one of the seasoned musicians in the Volta Region, released his first musical album titled ‘Think A Little’ in 1996, which became one of the greatest hits at that time.

He later left the shores of Ghana after releasing his first album for the United States of America on the ticket of a US cultural exchange programme.

In 2003, Tony established a music recording studio which assisted a number of musicians in the Volta Region.

Tony D has organised a number of musical concerts and talent hunts, the result of which many youth with musical talent were identified and introduced to the music industry.
