Deputy Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister, Sampson Ahi, has indicated that stakeholders must work together to improve access to affordable funding to bridge the gap between the rich and poor in Ghana in terms of housing.
This, according to Mr. Ahi, would help reduce costs for home buyers and developers and support a healthy rental market domestically.
Government is expected to lead the way in developing the local housing industry by creating the enabling environment and improving access to affordable funding.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 7th edition of MultiTV Habitat Fair on Friday in Accra, Mr Ahi explained that affordability of houses in Ghana is usually based on the type of financing housing available.
Crisis
Managing Director of MultiTV, Santokh Singh, described Ghana’s annual housing deficit, which stands at 1.7 million as not simply a revelation of a serious housing crisis, but also a deficit of peace, deficit of comfort and a crisis of human dignity.”
Multi TV Group partnered Sethi Realty, a real estate developer and the Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing to organize the 7th edition of the MultiTV Habitat Fair.
“This year, we have had two housing clinics already. In June at the Achimota Retail Centre and July at the West Hills Mall-Weija, these mini fairs served as a warm-up for the grand fair today,” he said.
