Dr Philomena Nyarko

Ex-factory prices for goods and services have increased to 11.1 percent in August from 10.4 percent recorded in July 2016, relative to the price level recorded in August 2015.

The current figure represents 0.7 percent percentage points year-on-year and the monthly change rate was -3.3 percent.

The Producer Price Index (PPI) decreased by 3.3 percent in August 2016.

Dr. Philomena Nyarko, Government Statistician, who made this known at a press conference in Accra, said in August 2016, the mining and quarrying sub-sector recorded a producer price inflation of 28.8 percent, decreasing by 2 percent over the July 2016 rate of 30.4 percent.

She said the utilities sub-sector recorded the highest year-on-year producer price inflation rate of 36.0 percent while the manufacturing sub-sector recorded the lowest year-on-year inflation rate of 2.5 percent.

“With respect to the monthly changes, the manufacturing sub-sector recorded the lowest rate of -4.7 percent followed by the mining and quarrying sub-sector with -0.1 percent.

“The rate for the utilities sub-sector remained unchanged,” Dr. Nyarko said.
