British Airways Chalks 79 Years – Offers Special Fares

British Airways is offering a special fare from Accra to London and other selected destinations to mark its 79th anniversary.

Starting from $979 in World Traveller (Economy Class), $1,479 in World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) and $3,079 in Club World (Business Class), the sale started yesterday and runs until 24 October 2016 for outbound travel between now and 31 December 2016.

“As an international airline serving hundreds of destinations in nearly 90 countries, we understand, more than most, the important link between efficient, modern airlinks and successful business,” Kevin Leung, British Airways Commercial Manager for Ghana and Kenya said.

According to him, British Airways has invested over £5bn in its global operations in recent years; with a significant amount of this investment going into customer convenience and efficient operation.

British Airways, once known as ‘the world’s favourite airline,’ has come a long way since then, providing dedicated and top-class service on the Accra route for 79 years ever since.

With the introduction of the iconic Boeing 747 ‘Jumbo-Jet’ aircraft on the Ghana route in 2014, commercial air travel has been made accessible to many more people.

The 747 is a reliable and popular aircraft, with a global fleet serving over 210 airports and transporting over 3.5 million people.

Passengers also have access to an extremely convenient daily flight schedule, which ensures that business executives travelling from Ghana arrive in London early in the morning to start work or easily connect to other destinations in Europe or North America.

Also there is a network of domestic, regional and international lounges, offering a chance to freshen up, get something to eat and catch up on mails or a bit of work between flights.

On 13 October, 1937, a Diana-class DH86 aircraft arrived in Accra, pioneering an air passenger service that in modern days carries over 300 people and several tons of cargo to and from London every day.

This flight, operated by British Airways’ predecessor Imperial Airways, connected a number of British Empire colonies, and with 15 stops between Accra and Southampton, could take as long as one week to complete.
