Some irate residents in the various communities at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Wednesday staged a massive demonstration against the authorities of the University.
The angry residents wearing red attire blocked the main entrance from the University to the communities to prevent motorists from entering the area.
The three hour demonstration was to express their discomfort about what they called “neglect by the university, citing lack of unemployment for the youth in the area, poor road network as well as lack of scholarship for their wards.”
They further accused some male students of the University for impregnating young girls in the area and later abandoning them.
However, the public Affairs Directorate of the University revealed that the University after receiving a letter from the youth in the area outlining their problems held a meeting with them.
“After having a meeting with the opinion leaders, we told them that the University would only help them through our corporate social responsibilities since it was the responsibility of the government to improve on the developmental projects in the area”
According to the Public Affairs Directorate, the affairs between students and girls in the area were love affairs between two consenting people and if they were not adults then it was criminal and the law must take its course.
