Confidence K. Baah

A 36-year-old woman has been arrested by the Effiduase police over the death of Confidence K. Baah, a broadcast journalist, who worked with Kessben FM in Kumasi.

Confidence, 36, who was a household name in the Ashanti Region due to his exceptional performance on radio, was found dead in his room at Effiduase – his hometown – Sunday dawn.

The cause of his death was not immediately known but there was foam in his mouth and nose.

The police suspect foul play and believe Confidence might have been poisoned.

They arrested his fiancée, who was said to be the last person to see Confidence before his death, to assist in investigations.

Confidence, his uncle and the said lady reportedly consumed alcoholic beverages at about two drinking spots at Efffiduase and Juaben Saturday evening.

The journalist, who graduated from Christian Service University College (CSUC) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) – both in Kumasi – did not show any sign of ailment at the time.

From the drinking spot, Confidence and his fiancée reportedly went to sleep in his room and the following morning he was found dead on his bed with foam in his mouth and nose, according to reports.

The fiancée was nowhere to be found at the time Confidence’s lifeless body was discovered in the room.

The body was conveyed to the Effiduase Government Hospital for autopsy.

The matter was reported to the Effiduase police who apprehended the fiancée to assist in investigations.

Sources indicated that the lady said Confidence was alive when she left the room at about 4:30 am on Sunday.

Shock

Confidence’s sudden death came as a shock to the entire media fraternity in the Ashanti Region, where he performed creditably at Kumasi Mail newspaper and other establishments for more than one decade.

Frederick Acheampong, a senior staff of Kessben FM, who was among the people that travelled to Effiduase to watch Confidence’s body amid tears, said he was astounded to see his brother and colleague dead.

He appealed to the police to thoroughly investigate circumstances surrounding his death.

Journalists in Kumasi, especially Kessben FM and TV, thronged the studios of the station to shed tears for their departed colleague on Sunday morning.
