The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Asafo-Agyei Hospital in Kumasi, Archbishop Prof Dr Asafo-Agyei Anane-Frempong, has received a special award at the 2016 National Medical Excellence Awards (MEA).
The second MEA which was held in Accra at the College of Physicians and Surgeons saw over 21 winning awards in dentistry, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy and diagnostic sciences. The auxiliary staff and mortuary attendants also picked up awards.
Recognition
The award seeks to honour outstanding achievement in the field of healthcare delivery and celebrate selflessness of health workers in various disciplines and to educate health workers on the need for compassion, dedication and excellence in healthcare delivery.
The Founder of MEA, Dr Dauda Amidu Titus-Adandada, explained that recognising hard work by health professionals was critical to effective health delivery in the country. He expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, including sponsors of the award for their support.
Citation
“Information and knowledge imparted by your learned self is not mediocre, the evidence of which is the quality of doctors in practice, from under your tutelage.
“Being the first Ghanaian doctor to non-surgically treat piles using a method called hemorrhoidectomy, doctor, the medical fraternity is in awe of you, and Ghana salutes you,” the citation read.
It continued…“For more than forty decades, you have contributed towards restructuring the health sector, providing top-notch, but affordable healthcare, with a passion which inspire the younger generation. Your sacrifice, commitment and love in driving the health delivery process is worthy of emulation.”
Commendation
Dr Asafo-Agyei described the awards as significant, since it could motivate health professionals to give their best in their respective specialisation. He thanked the organisers and urged them on as they acknowledge hard work in the industry.
He has won many local and international awards. He was recently honoured with a World Cup by the International Biographical Centre (IBC) In the United Kingdom.
