The Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed has assured the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom and the President of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boru-Essa I of government’s preparedness to solve the Gonjaland water crisis permanently.

Addressing the gathering during the extra ordinary Gonja Traditional Council meeting at Yapei, he said, the age-long water crisis in Damong and its environs will soon be permanently fixed.

According to him, the project fund has been sourced and the necessary processes are being worked on to ensure implementation in the shortest possible time.

The Minister explained that the president has attached importance to resolving the Gonjaland water problem and that was why he appointed Dr. Clifford Braimah from Gonjaland as the Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Northern Region to see to it that the water problem is solved permanently.

Salifu Saeed indicated that there is also a long term plan which government is working on with some investors to connect water from the white and black Volta for distribution to communities along Buipe, Yapei and Tamale.

The Yagbonwura stated that the water crisis in the Gonjaland has contributed to the poor performance of students in schools.

According to him, it is depressing to see students moving in town in search of water for bathing and other activities in their schools.

He appealed to President Akufo-Addo to speedily address the Gonjaland water problem to prevent lives and industries from collapsing.

‘Gonjaland will appreciate and applaud the government if the water challenge, especially in Damongo, becomes a thing of the past’.
