Sunyani West Gets Ultra-Modern Mortuary

The 2000-capacity mortuary

Relatives of dead people can now have a decent place to keep the dead before burial following the opening of an ultra-modern mortuary at Mentukwa in the Sunyani West District of the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The 2000-bed capacity, according to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bestcare Clinic & Mortuary Services, Gabriel Sakyi Kwofie, is to satisfy the high demand for mortuary services in the region.

The facility which has clinical services attached was built at the cost of GH¢ 2m.

It has various segments, including general cold room, VIP cold room, cold room for children, autopsy room, incinerator, among other ancillary facilities like clinic (general OPD), mortuary services, event logistics, ambulance services, among others.

At the commissioning of the facility, the CEO mentioned that the ultra-modern mortuary would also help to absorb what he called “spill over of dead bodies” from the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital and other mortuaries across the region.

“We need to dignify our departed loved ones. We shouldn’t be seen to be mishandling dead bodies,” he highlighted.

Mr Sakyi Kwofie added that it is also an avenue to create job opportunities for the youth as a result of calls by the government on the private sector to help create jobs for the teeming youth in the country.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Sunyani West, Martin Obeng, who cut the tape to commission the facility, commended the owners of the mortuary for identifying a particular need of the people and taking steps to meet it.

He tasked the owners and workers of the facility to comply with the laws regarding operations of mortuary services by bringing the place to high hygienic standards to avert disease outbreak.

Mr Obeng also charged the workers to be receptive and accord the necessary courtesies to family members who will be using the facility, adding that “you should do well to respect the customs and traditions of various ethnic groups.”
