GHS, Yale University Renew MOU

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yale University to achieve quality universal health coverage in the country.

The MoU, signed by the American private Ivy League research university and the country’s health authority, formed part of activities lined up for the official visit of the university’s president, Peter Salovey.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, disclosed that the renewal of the MoU would lead to a stronger collaboration between the two institutions and facilitate the sharing of materials and scientific ideas to benefit both entities.

He said Yale University had collaborated with the GHS in several projects under the previous MoU, including the formulation of policies on the Mental Health Law (MHL), as well as played an instrumental role in the operations of the legislation since it was passed.

“Ghanaian health professionals would go far to learn in Yale and likewise health workers in Yale also learn from Ghana, therefore, evidence-based facts and best practices in medicine would be discharged for Ghanaians to achieve universal health coverage,” he added.

Dr Nsiah-Asare expressed his gratitude to Mr Salovey for Yale’s contributions to research works, which had improved the country’s health systems and provided quality of care for the betterment of the people of Ghana.

He cited that despite the signing of the new MoU which include some amendments, projects started under the former MoU such as the maternal and child health and HIV research would still be continued.

“The GHS is concerned about maternal and child health, which include maternal mortality and under five mortality, which is Sustainable Development Goal 3 and the Service will work together with the Yale University to learn how to achieve this goal,” he added.

Mr Salovey assured the health authority of his outfit’s desire to renew the partnership with GHS in capacity building and research partnerships and collaboration.

He also stated that Ghana’s the health challenges could be addressed through effective collaborations.
