Crime in Hohoe Drops

Security Personnel at the WASSA having a good time

Crime rate in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region has seen a decline since 2016.

The Hohoe Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Stephen Boadu, who made the announcement recently, said the decrease in the crime rate in the municipality has been vast since he assumed office in 2016.

He explained that the crime rate reduced from 705 cases in 2016 to 446 cases in 2017. This year, the crime cases reported as at July, 2018, is 350. He was hopeful that the situation would be managed to ensure 2018 ends with low crime rate too.

Supt. Boadu made the announcement in Hohoe during the maiden edition of the West Africa Security Services Association (WASSA) Festival of the Hohoe Divisional Police Command.

The celebration which attracted top dignitaries in the municipality and sister agencies such as the Immigration, Fire Service, Military, among others, saw the Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area, Togbega Gabusu VI, as the chairperson.

The municipal commander promised the chiefs and people present to tackle crime issues in the municipality with a sense of emergency to ensure Hohoe becomes a crime-free municipality in the Volta Region.

He therefore pleaded with the public to continuously support the police to tackle crime saying, “The members of the public are our major source of information.”

Togbega Gabusu VI in his speech as the chairman applauded the municipal commander for his immense effort and strategic policing initiatives to reduce the crime rate in the municipality.

He also acknowledged the unity and swift response rate of the police whenever they were contacted, describing it as one of a kind in the Volta Region.

WASSA is celebrated every year among security personnel to pave way for security personnel to engage in a social activity which promotes police-public relations and also helps the personnel to release stress per the demanding nature of their work.
