4 Arrested With Weapons

Four persons, who were arrested by the police at an ungodly hour with implements, have been remanded into custody by the Ashaiman District Court.

The accused persons, Prince Ankra, 25, Robert Ofosu, 24, Simon Baidoo, 21, and Agyei Frimpong, 18, were arrested by the National Highways Patrol team of the Ghana Police Service.

They were said to be in possession of implements such as cutlass, pickaxe and pinch bar on the Afienya Highway at night.

However, the accused persons explained that they put the implements in the vehicle to protect themselves against car snatchers.

The lawyer further told the court that the pickaxe and pinch bar were being used to build a wooden structure.

The lawyer prayed the court to grant them bail because the complainant, who was not in court, had not provided any substantial evidence to support the claims.

The lawyer said one of the suspects sustained injury in the ear due to the severe beatings by the police upon arrest.

The court, presided over by His Lordship Gabriel Matey-Teye, remanded all the accused persons into custody and ordered the immediate treatment of the injured person at the hospital.

The prosecutor, Inspector Binmatu Musah, prayed the court to adjourn the case to allow for further police investigations.
