Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, CEO of the AMAAs
The organisers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) have announced October 20 as the new date to host the continental awards for filmmakers in Africa and the diaspora.
The awards ceremony was earlier scheduled to come off on September 22 in Kigali, Rwanda, but that has been postponed to October.
The shift in date, according to the Director of Administration at AMAA, Mr. Tony Anih, is to enable the host country and the organisers sort out the huge logistics involved in hosting a global event as AMAA.
AMAA remains one of Africa’s long running award ceremonies to honour excellence in the movie industry.
This year, over 500 films were entered for the awards and AMAA hopes that Ghana filmmakers who got nominations would make their country proud at the main ceremony.
The 14th edition of AMAA is being supported by the Rwanda Convention Bureau, Rwandair, Rwanda Development Board, Radisson Blu Hotel and Kigali Convention Centre.
