Ursula Owusu-Ekuful
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Communications, who doubles as Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West, has been enstooled as the Nkosuohemaa (Development Queen) of Akyem-Asuom in the Kwaebibrim District in the Eastern Region with stool name Obaapanyin Abena Bema Oforiwaa Gyamkobaa II.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, an indigene of Akyem Oda, which is close to Akyem Asuom, met the criteria set by the traditional council.
The Minister accepted the position when she represented President Akufo-Addo last year at the 75th anniversary of the enstoolment of Nana Yaa Anamah II, the longest-serving queenmother of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.
Accepting the new position as Nkosuohemaa, Obaapanyin Abena Bema Oforiwaa Gyamkobaa II admitted that a huge responsibility had been bestowed on her and thanked the chiefs and people of the town for the honour done her.
In her acceptance speech, the MP for Ablekuma West promised to mobilize resources for the construction of a Vocational Institute in the area to help provide skills to the youth to address the high unemployment rate.
She also assured the people of Asuom that she would team up with other prominent natives to bring development to the town.
The Chief of Asuom, Osabarima Ofosuhene Apenteng II charged the Nkosuhemaa to help develop the area, since the community is lagging behind in terms of development.
The programme attracted dignitaries such as Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, Deputy Minister of Trade, who is also the MP for Tema West and hails from Asuom, George Nenyi Andah, Deputy Minister for Communications, Vincent Odotei-Sowah, Deputy Minister for Communications, Joe Anokye, Managing Director of the National Communications Authority (NCA) and James Kwofie, Managing Director of Ghana Post.
She was also accompanied by her husband, mother and other loved ones to the event.
In attendance were Kwabena Ohemeng-Tinyas, MP for Kade, Antwi Boasiako, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kade, chiefs from Asuom and its environs, Nana Akua Asantewaa, queen mother of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Oda.
