The District Chief Executive of the Awutu-Senya-West District Assembly in the Central Region, Stephen Kwame Quaye has said the assembly has completed the first phase of a modern market at Bawjiase, the main commercial town in the district with the second phase set to begin soon.
According to him, the assembly saw the need to build the new market at Bawjiase which is a major market and commercial centre in the district, to help boost internally generated revenue for the district.
The DCE indicated that the first phase included a car park and loading lot.
Speaking to the DAILY GUIDE, the DCE said even though the previous administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) left the assembly with a huge debt of GH¢5.6 million, the assembly has been able to clear greater part and moved the district forward in terms of development.
“We have been able to pay about GH¢3.6 million of the debt left by the previous government accumulated mainly from unpaid road projects and uncompleted assembly building complex that houses the assembly” he said adding that the assembly which was carved out of the Awutu-Senya-East Municipal Assembly is also putting up a new residence for the DCE.
He disclosed that during the era of the NDC, the assembly was renting a three bedroom house at the cost of GH¢50,000 a month but when he took over he decided to stay in his own house at Bawjiase to commute to work every day to allow the assembly save that money to build a new residence for the DCE.
