Members of the ETF
AN ELECTION Task Force (ETF) has been inaugurated by the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) in the Greater Accra Region to coordinate all security activities in the Municipality before, during and after 2020 polls.
The Task Force would also see to the securing the safe transportation and storage of election materials at all polling centers, ensuring peace on election days, ensuring the arrest and subsequent prosecution of election offenders and identifying election hotspots for effective planning and development.
First assignment of the ETF will be the coordination of security activities of the district level elections and the referendum on December 17, 2019.
The members of the ETF includes; the Regent of Ashaiman, Ashaiman Municipal Coordinating Director, Bureau of National Investigation (BNI), First Battalion of Infantry (1BN) Commander, Electoral Officer, NCCE Director and ASHMA PRO.
Chief Superintendent Samuel Amissah, Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, who happens to be the Chairman of the ETF, in a short address, explained some of the duties of the ETF and the police that a joint operation centre would be created to monitor activities at all the polling centers in the constituency.
According to him, the ETF would also liaise with the media, religious organisations and political parties to wage a crusade against hate speech, spreading wild rumours and political thuggery.
The commander entreated the political parties and media to lead the crusade, saying the media should not allow their space to be used by politicians with sour utterances to incite the gullible violent youth.
He served notice to the politicians that the police would deal with anyone caught inciting trouble; advising, “Therefore, talk to your supporters to be moderate in whatever they will do.”
