The Government of Ghana has through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission has constructed a weigh bridge for the country’s bauxite and manganese.
Located at Apemanim in the Ahanta West District of Western Region, the Bridge is to help Government get the right measure of bauxite and manganese being shipped out of the country from the Western Region.
This is to help Ghana not to be shortchanged by the mining companies shipping manganese and bauxite through the Takoradi Harbour by offering Minerals Commission the platform to accurately measure the tonnages of manganese and bauxite being transported for export.
It will ensure that the right tonnage of manganese and bauxite are shipped to provide value for money for the country.
Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, speaking in an exclusive interview with DGN Online at Apamanim on Friday, August 21, 2020, said the weighbridge was 80% complete.
Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh said what was left is the laying of the pavement.
He stated that all necessary machines needed for the checking of the manganese and bauxite were available.
The construction of the Bridge started in 2019 and the Minister believes it will help ensure that Ghana is not shortchanged.
