Benjilo addressing the participants
The Chief Executive Officer of Benjilo Foundation, also the Director of Finance at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Benjamin Arkaah Otoo, popularly called Benjilo, has stressed that education is paramount to the socio-economic development of every country.
“I believe in education, particularly the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Industrialised countries like Germany and China have embraced it for their enormous economic development and Ghana should continue on that path towards progress,” he stressed.
Speaking as a special guest of honour during the first anniversary of the enstoolment of Nana Ama Serwah Owusua Fofie II, Akyem Apapamhemaa who doubles as the Amantuomiensa Hemaa under the Okyeman Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, over the weekend, Benjilo made a passionate appeal to parents not to undermine the formal education of their children.
He admonished all people of school-going age, to embrace education in order to bridge the gap between the “poor” and the “rich” in Ghana as a whole.
Nana Serwah Owusua Fofie II, on her part, said teenage pregnancy has become a major factor hindering education in her community.
She said she was embarking on adolescent reproductive health sensitisation programme for all basic schools in the community as part of the celebration of her first year on the royal seat.
She called on parents, teachers and all, to collectively be ambassadors to reverse the situation as the royal administration has taken the steps to ensure a reduction in teenage pregnancies.
