Man Captured On Video Discharging Firearm At A&C Mall Grabbed ….Put In Military Guardroom

A collaboration between the Police and the Military Police has led to the arrest of the man who was seen in a video discharging several firearm at A&C Mall at East Legon in Accra on December 31 night to welcome the New Year.

The suspect, Flt. Sergeant Nicholas Owusu Frimpong was said to be a military man.

A statement from the police Monday January 3, 2022 said the suspect has been detained by the Military Police as investigation continuous into the matter.

The police has therefore advised the public to be guided in their celebration and desist from act that compromise public safety and order as they continue to make merry to welcome the new year.

The Ghana Police Service placed a GHC5,000 bounty on the suspect who was seen in a video footage wielding a firearm suspected to be an AK47 assault rifle and discharging it indiscriminately at the shopping centre that midnight.

He was was under investigation by the police for discharging a firearm in public “without lawful and necessary occasion under Section 209 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

The police says they intercepted the video which went viral on social media and have taken a serious stance against the actions of the youngman now identified as soldier since it is a crime to discharge a firearm in public without lawful and necessary occasion under Section 209 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
