GOOD CAUSES Foundation, the corporate social responsibility wing of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), in partnership with Redeemer Care Foundation, last Sunday celebrated over 200 widows in the Akuapim North Municipality as part of the Mother’s Day celebration.
Each of the widows were presented with a piece of cloth, rice and cooking oil, among others.
The beneficiaries came from communities such as Obosomase, Tutu, Mampong, Abotakyi, Amanokrom, Mamfi, Lartey and Akropong among others.
Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, said the NLA, as part of efforts to support the less privileged decided to reach out with the Redeemer Foundation on Mothers’ Day considering the role of mothers in society.
Madam Adubea, on behalf of the widows, expressed her gratitude to the two bodies for remembering them at a time when mothers were being celebrated across the world.
Mr. Awuku further assured the public of the company’s continuous support for the needy in society as part of its corporate social responsibility of giving back to society.
Deputy Coordinator of Good Causes Foundation, Ama Frimpong, said the objective of the programme was to honour mothers, particularly widows who may be facing some challenges in their present condition.
She stated, “It is a significant day for women, a day set aside to celebrate women, there is no better way for NLA to celebrate the day than to celebrate it with widows, you know how they are stigmatised, people don’t have time for them, they go through lots of pressure thinking about all sorts of things. We think the time to honour them is now, though the package may not be enough, the thought of helping them alone is enough.”
Akosua Datey Baah, CEO of Redeemer Care Foundation, on her part, commended the NLA for supporting them to touch lives, especially widows as enjoined by the scriptures.
