The remains of the lynched soldier, Private Imoru Sheriff were interred yesterday at the Burma Camp Cemetery.
The 37 Military Hospital mosque was a beehive of activities as scores of family members, friends of the deceased and soldiers from the various units converged on the location to await the pre-burial rites, Islam and military.
The father, Awudu Imoru, was expectedly emotional when DAILY GUIDE located him close to the mosque, as he like others was waiting for the pre-burial procedures.
His mother, Efia Kyiaa or Sakina, also on the grounds of the mosque, was supported by her relations to control the emotional pain she was enduring, especially when the body of her son was brought into the premises of the mosque.
Senior officers and Other Ranks from the various services were present to give the murdered the appropriate last rites.
Especially present were Muslim service personnel.
The pallbearers executing the procedures for such occasions added to the solemnity of the moment.
The bugler played his part with the sounding of the last post.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, performed the prayer for the dead as required in Islam, the faith of the deceased, following which the remains were returned to the hearse for the final march to the Burma Camp Cemetery.
The late Pte Imoru Sheriff passed out from basic training school barely a year ago.
Stationed in Sunyani in the Bono Region, he was said to be on a short course in Accra and visited his parents every Friday on pass.
Last Saturday, he was lynched by a mob, the reason for which action is yet to be ascertained.
The circumstances of the death of the young soldier informed the full military respect accorded his remains.
His death touched many hearts as did Maj Mahama a few years ago. The sobbing mother was a scene too difficult to observe.
The late Imoru Sheriff was born on June 3, 2001.
