Osagyefo-Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II
We are worried at these utterances because both Dormaahene and Ayikoi Otoo are lawyers and are serving, and have served in prestigious legal positions in the country. And the bad precedent they are establishing by their appeal to the Attorney General to stop the prosecution is unwarranted.
We are tempted to label Ayikoi Otoo and Arthur Kennedy opponents of the government because of their utterances.
Some of our people are setting double standards in our society and by extension build a class society in which the minority loud voices will have their way.
So far advocates of discontinuing Gyakye Quayson’s case do not have the arguments supporting their call except that in this case they are doing so because of politics.
It is very myopic for them to claim that prosecution will deny the people of Assin North of representation in Parliament.
If they feel strongly that Gyakye Quayson has not done anything wrong, they should leave the court to decide so that the country does not set a bad precedent.
Furthermore, we wonder whether these people were in the country during the trial of Adamu Sakande. They have taken advantage of the polarised media to engage in unnecessary commentaries to divide the country.
We should stop the commentaries on high profile cases and give the entire citizenry the confidence in the rule of law. Let us ask the Dormaahene and Ayikoi Otoo whether henceforth they will advise the Attorney General to discontinue other criminal cases involving alleged fowl and foodstuffs thieves.
If the Dormaahene has forgotten, we want to remind him of what he said in 2016 during the run off to the elections then when he mounted the campaign platform at Dormaa Ahenkro with Mr. John Mahama saying if Ghanaians won’t acknowledge the good deeds of Mr. Mahama, he will turn into a serial caller to tell Ghanaians to retain Mr. Mahama in office.
The naysayers are doing so because of partisan political reasons and not for the public good. Commentators must use the media space to promote the national cause instead of being used as mega phones for regime change for the NDC to take over power.
Dormaahene, Ayikoi Otoo and Arthur Kennedy come again for you have goofed because your advocacy will not promote rule of law and democratic rule.
