Ambassador of the Republic of Iran to Ghana, Dr. BijanĀ Gerami, last Saturday joined the Islamic University College Ghana and some Muslim communities to mark the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.

The birthday of Prophet Mohammed, known as Maulud-al-Nabi, falls on the eighth or twelfth day of the third month of the lunar calendar and referred to as one of the significant events in Islam after Islam’sĀ two Eid celebrations every year.

The event held at the Islamic University College’s Adjirigannor campus in Accra also brought together scores of Muslims including President of the Red Crescent Ghana, and President of the Islamic University College Ghana.

Others include the National Nasara Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), students of Lady Fatima Girlsā€™ SHS at Adentan, Accra and Sayid Wasiyin Islamic School and other notable dignitaries as well as some Islamic clerics.

The colourful event started with some prayers andĀ Qur’anic recitals by some Islamic clergy from various parts of Accra expressing their gratitude to God for life and blessings.

Sheikh Mohammed Munir, an Islamic scholar, who works at the office of the President of the Islamic University College Ghana, espoused on the importance of the Holy Qur’an and asked Muslims to abide by the commandments required of them from the Holy Qur’an in anticipation of same blessings from the Qur’an.

According to him, most Muslims have often asked some Islamic clerics for prayers from the Qur’an whenever they were in dire need of one form of support or the other, but have also failed to adhere to its beliefs and contents.

He, therefore, advised all Muslims to make theĀ Qur’an an important pillar partner in their lives and not only when they were facing hardship.

“That is not how it works, ensure you follow all the commandment that is required of you as a Muslim in fulfilment of the commandment of the Qur’an as you make it a part of your life and desist from asking what the Holy Qur’an could do for you,” he added.

An Islamic scholar and cleric, Sheikh MohammedĀ  Mutawakil, also known as Illimi, for his part, said that theĀ  lives of people largely depends on the spirit being which enlightens the heart, likening it to Prophet Mohammed who enlightens the heart of men.

Sheikh Gazali Alhassan Samari, in charge of religious and cultural affairs of ICUG, indicated that it was imperative forĀ them to organise the event in “honour and contribute in raising and sustaining the banner of Prophet Mohammed while on earth.”

He mentioned that such events do not only offer opportunity for Muslims to meet as one people, but it also offers an opportunity for them to receive Allah’s blessings in all aspects of their lives through the teachings of Prophet Mohammed.
