Nigerian comedian, AY Makun, has extended a heartfelt apology to music sensation Davido following the unintended backlash that resulted from his recent ‘small preek’ joke, which had caused some stir in the entertainment world.

Taking to his Instagram account, AY Makun expressed his sincere regret for the way his joke was received during a show in Warri.

In his apology post, he shared a picture of the Afrobeats superstar along with two videos showcasing his own performances.

In the caption accompanying his post, AY acknowledged that the joke, as it came across in the viral video, was not humorous as intended. He stated, “I am so sorry for telling that joke the way it came out in Warri. I shouldn’t even call it a joke anymore. It wasn’t funny like it was during my tour of the US and Canada, and you have every right to be angry after seeing how the blogs used it.”

AY Makun went on to accept the criticism and backlash he had received, taking responsibility for the poor delivery of the joke. “Please know that it is always a learning experience for all of us in the entertainment business,” he added.

In a gesture of goodwill and reconciliation, AY addressed Davido directly, saying, “I deserve any backlash or negative thoughts coming my way for the joke that was badly delivered in Warri. So, no excuses at all, my aburo. No reason am. I remain your number one fan, and I love you, @davido.”

The controversy stemmed from AY Makun’s Warri show, where he made a light-hearted jest about Davido’s multiple children despite his perceived “small preek,” especially in light of the singer’s well-documented struggle with infertility for 13 years.

In response to the comedian’s apology, Davido, known for his good-natured demeanor, offered his understanding, writing, “Nothing spoil Baba mi…,” signaling that there were no hard feelings and reinforcing the bond between them.
