Bawumia Woos Youth Into Agric

VICE PRESIDENT Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has officially opened the ‘Siriboe Institute of Agribusiness and Skill Development’ (SIAS) at Bomfa, in the Juaben District of the Ashanti region.

Addressing the gathering, he said the government is committed to adopt new and modern channels to make the agricultural sector lucrative and appealing to the youth.

According to him, it is time that technological and scientific means are implemented to boost the agricultural sector, so as to attract the youth into agriculture to enhance the economy.

The future of agriculture, he opined, is no more cutlasses and hoes, but rather, the use of technology, Artificial intelligence and data.

In this regard, he stated emphatically that the government would continuously implement modern and scientific means to help make the agricultural sector appealing to the youth.

“Focusing on Agriculture production on a large scale through technology will help improve agricultural productivity in the country”, he said.

Dr. Bawumia said advance countries strive on technology, science and data to promote Agriculture, therefore Ghana should also employ same strategies in order to better the agricultural sector for growth.

According to him, the second phase of the famous Planting for Food and Jobs programme by the government is geared towards enhancing the lives of the youth and improving food security.

SIAS CEO of the institute who doubles as 2022 National Best farmer, Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe, said the institute formed part of his plans to promote national economic growth.

“The reward of one million Ghana Cedis for me as national best farmer in 2022 has been used to establish the training centre to benefit future generations and also lead to national development,” he said.
