The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) was able to raise a total of GH¢8,572,196.86 as at the end of June this year.
The amount represents 43.8 per cent of the assembly’s budgeted Internal Generated Funds (IGF).
According to the assembly, the government’s statutory releases also amounted to GH¢17,418,535.54.
“This brings our cumulative revenue to GH¢25,716,590.58,” the assembly pointed out.
The Municipal Chief Executive MCE of STMA, Abdul Mumin-Issah disclosed this at the 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the 1st Session of the 9th STMA.
He urged the assembly members to support the assembly’s field officers and commission collectors to rake in the required maximum revenue from the various community sources.
He said the government remains committed to supporting the vulnerable and ensuring they can live with dignity.
Mr. Mumin-Issah said the Assembly, through the Social Welfare and Community Development Department, has received an amount of GH¢150,027.00.
He said of the amount, GH¢51,630.00 will be disbursed to 30 beneficiaries hopefully by second week of September.
“The People with Disability (PWD) Fund Management Committee will also be presenting proposals for the disbursement of the remaining funds”, he noted.
Mr. Mumin-Issah told the members that the Assembly, through the Department of Agriculture, has begun preparations for the 40th anniversary edition of the Metropolitan Farmers’ Day this year, scheduled for the first Friday in November.
“The shift to November is due to the upcoming general elections on December 7 this year,” he explained.
CoMSSA – SEACAP Preparation
He said a validation workshop has been organised for stakeholders to provide their input on a draft Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan (SEACAP) document.
Mr. Mumin-Issah said it is towards addressing the climate change menace and building a sustainable and resilient future for the people. It is supported by the Covenant of Mayor’s in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoMSSA).
Urban Transition Mission Project
He revealed that the Assembly has been selected to benefit from yet another Project known as the Urban Transition Mission Project.
“Through this project, communities across the entire Metropolis would benefit from street lighting. It will also encourage and support clean energy use in all buildings in the area”, Mr. Mumin-Issah added.
