In a grand ceremony at Jubilee House on November 9, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo conferred Ghana’s highest honour, the Companion of the Order of Volta (CV) on Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
This prestigious award celebrates her outstanding service and leadership, capping off an illustrious career spanning nearly two decades.
Lifetime of Public Service
Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey’s journey in public service began with her election as a Member of Parliament, a position she held for four terms. Her dedication and expertise led to her appointment as Ghana’s Foreign Minister in 2017.
As Foreign Minister, she played a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s foreign relations and global diplomacy.
ECOWAS Leadership and Regional Impact
Within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Ayorkor Botchwey demonstrated exceptional leadership in addressing complex security and governance challenges.
Her efforts positioned Ghana as a stabilizing force in the region, showcasing her commitment to peace and cooperation.
A Historic Achievement
Recently, Ayorkor Botchwey made history as the first Ghanaian and African woman to be elected Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations.
