Dr. Owusu Sekyere in a handshake with Yvonne Opare after the donation
The Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) has donated two dialysis machines and two chairs to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
The donation which forms part of the GACL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is to aid in the treatment of patients with kidney diseases.
Managing Director of the GACL, Yvonne Opare, said, “For some time now, we have seen some report in the news concerning the short fall that we have in equipment at our dialysis department or center so we felt it would be a good thing for GACL to take that up as our CSR.”
She added that the company would also cover the one month dialysis treatment cost for 50 patients at both the KBTH and the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Acting Chief Executive Officer, KBTH, Dr. Owusu Sekyere, showed appreciation to GACL and encouraged other corporate bodies to come on board and help save lives.
He commented, “We are very grateful as a hospital and we promise that we’re going to put this one to very good use.”
Nephrologist at KBTH, Dr. Vincent Boima, said the dialysis equipment will go a long way to help save the lives of patients with having kidney.
He said, “Sadly we have a lot of patients who have kidney diseases in Ghana and the saddest aspect is that most of them are very young between the ages of 20 to 50 years and in the reproductive years and these are the people who need to be carted for to be back in society so that they can contribute to society”.
