Mahama’s University Promise: A Repeat Of Past Unfulfilled Vows?

John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed to establish public universities in Ghana’s six newly created regions if elected in 2024.

This pledge echoes his previous promises, which he failed to deliver.

A History of Unfulfilled Promises

During his previous tenure, former President Mahama promised to build 200 Community Day Senior High Schools, but only 23 were completed.

John Mahama’s administration also established the University of Environment and Sustainable Development in the Eastern Region.

However, critics argue that many of his educational promises remain unfulfilled.

The New Promise

John Mahama’s latest vow aims to provide equal access to higher education nationwide, ensuring each region has at least one public university.

On a campaign tour, the former President urged traditional leaders to earmark lands for tertiary development, promising to establish universities or campuses in the six new regions.

Sceptics And Critics

However, many question Mahama’s ability to fulfil this promise, citing his past unmet commitments.
