Rebecca Akufo-Addo
Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region will witness intense political activity today, Friday November 22, as major political party stalwarts from both sides converge to campaign for their respective candidates.
This constituency has already seen significant political engagements this year, with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, visiting in August to support Sammi Awuku, the parliamentary candidate for Akuapem North.
High-Stakes Campaigning
Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, is expected to campaign in the constituency, culminating in a major rally at Mampong, Awuku’s hometown.
Meanwhile, First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo will join the NPP campaign trail, focusing on traditionally NDC-dominated areas.
Over the last three days, the two major political parties have been intensifying their campaign.
Party supporters have lined the streets with flags and posters of their respective parliamentary candidates.
Mr. Awuku, for his part, has spent the last two weeks visiting towns and major villages to secure more votes for Dr. Bawumia.
The NDC, meanwhile, appears concerned about Mr. Awuku’s deliberate efforts to penetrate into its strongholds, including Adawso, Mangoase, Kwamoso, Tinkrong, and other areas within the constituency.
Adding to this momentum, the First Lady of the Republic, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, is expected to join the NPP campaign trail, focusing on these traditionally NDC-dominated areas.
Security
This convergence of high-profile political figures is expected to pose logistical challenges for the security apparatus as both parties ramp up their activities around the same time.
Mr. Awuku is anticipated to play a leading role in galvanizing support for the NPP and Dr. Bawumia, while Mrs. Akufo-Addo is expected to inaugurate a newly constructed clinic for the people of Gbolo Kofi in the Mangoase area.
Additionally, the National Women’s Organizer of the NPP, Kate Gyamfua, is expected to be in the constituency at the same time, engaging with queen mothers and traditional leaders to solicit support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Sammi Awuku.
