Muslim Peace, Reconciliation Committee Hails Peaceful Elections

Sheikh Mohammed Ridwan with other members of the committee

THE MUSLIM Peace and Reconciliation Committee has commended Ghanaians for the conduct of a peaceful election on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

The chairman of the committee, Sheikh Mohammed Ridwan, addressing the media on Monday, December 9, expressed the committee’s gratitude to God for his guidance and divine protection.

The Islamic scholar also praised the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for conceding defeat at the end of the general election.

“The speech by the Vice President yesterday has shown that he is a man of peace, and we commend him for that. It shows that he respects the Peace Pact he signed before the polls,” Sheikh Ridwan added.

He also praised the Electoral Commission (EC), the security agencies, NCCE, the media, CODEO, and other civic groups for their resilience and hard work in ensuring peaceful elections.

Sheikh Mohammed Ridwan, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alpha Radio in Kumasi, on behalf of the committee extended appreciation to Zango Chiefs and Imams who in diverse ways contributed their quota in ensuring that there was peace among the Muslim youth in the Zango Community.

“On behalf of the committee, I thank all heads of Islamic Senior High Schools (SHS) in Kumasi for allowing the committee to conduct peace advocacy in their various schools.

The committee has also called for a smooth transition between the outgoing and incoming governments to ensure accountability.

“Ghana has once again demonstrated its commitment to the democratic principles of tolerance and we expect our neighbouring  countries to emulate this shining example by selecting leaders through the ballots instead of bullets,” he said.

The Islamic cleric also appealed to the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to deal with pockets of violence recorded in some parts of the country to maintain law and order.
