Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng
Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) “fake party” comment is going to cost him membership of the party, as processes to that effect have begun.
The heart surgeon turned politician said during a media interview that he belongs to a virtual NPP and the current one.
He also alleged irregularities in the 2023 Presidential Primary, allegations which the NPP has rejected, emphasising that due process was followed during the electoral exercise.
The party has announced the commencement of processes to expel the politician from the party following the Channel One TV interview.
The Monday, January 12 interview had Prof. Frimpong-Boateng describing the NPP as a “fake party” to which he no longer belongs. He also alleged that the party’s 2023 Presidential Primary was skewed in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general election.
In the January 13 NPP reaction, which was signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party described Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks as “highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party.”
“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s unfortunate characterisation of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” the statement read.
According to the NPP, the primary election was “widely acknowledged by all candidates who participated, as well as by well-meaning members of the Party, as having been conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, faithfully reflecting the will of Party delegates.”
