Key Suspect In Wapuli Kidnapping Case Arrested

The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has arrested a key suspect in the Wapuli kidnapping case following weeks of relentless surveillance.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, in a statement said on Tuesday January 20, 2026, Police apprehended suspect Hoyeefe Amadu, the fourth and key suspect, from his hideout in a village about 10km from the outskirts of Watugu, a suburb of Gushegu.

He indicated that the other three suspects have been remanded into Prison custody pending reappearance in court.
On December 6, 2025, the (PID) team successfully rescued a 42 year-old man from kidnappers in Wapuli, leading to the arrest of three suspects.

The victim was subjected to cutlass wounds, and the perpetrators successfully collected a ransom of GH¢90,000 out of a demanded GH¢100,000 as a condition for his release.

Police was however able to retrieve GH¢70,000. Undeterred, the officers continued intensive intelligence gathering and a manhunt for the remaining accomplice which led to suspect Amadu’s arrest.
