Fire Ravages Atonsu Bokro, Hundreds Displaced

Hundreds of residents have been rendered homeless after a devastating fire swept through parts of Atonsu Bokro in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday afternoon, destroying several market stalls and residential rooms.

The inferno, which broke out around 2:00 p.m., rapidly spread through the congested area, razing wooden stalls, containers and rented rooms before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) managed to bring it under control.

Although the cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded.

One of the victims, popularly known as Auntie Ama, lost both her room and container shop in the blaze. Speaking to the DAILY GUIDE in tears, she said she was not at home when the fire started and could not salvage any of her belongings.

“I was away when it happened. I only received a call from my neighbours. By the time I got here, everything I owned had been reduced to ashes. I have nothing left,” she lamented.

The Ashanti Regional Fire Command deployed three fire tenders to the scene, while residents supported the firefighters by fetching water from nearby homes to help douse the flames.

The Atonsu Bokro fire is the third major fire outbreak recorded in the Ashanti Region within the last 72 hours, raising fresh concerns over fire safety as properties worth millions of cedis continue to be lost.
