Illicit Drugs Destroyed In Ashanti

Some of the drugs about to be set in flames

The Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has destroyed large quantities of sex-enhancing and other illicit drugs valued at millions of cedis.

The destroyed items included Tramadol, Hyergra 200, Indian hemp and Benylin Codeine. The exercise was carried out on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Speaking to the media, the Station Officer of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, Inspector Nkrumah, disclosed that dozens of suspects had been arrested in connection with the drugs and subsequently arraigned before court.

“These drugs were seized last year, while others were confiscated this year. Our laws permit us to destroy them once they have served their purpose as exhibits,” he explained.

Inspector Nkrumah attributed the successes chalked up by the unit to effective intelligence-led operations, which have led to the arrest of several drug dealers operating within the Ashanti Region.

He issued a strong warning to drug peddlers, stressing that no one involved in the illegal drug trade would be spared.

“The law prescribes strict punishment for drug peddlers, and we will enforce it fully to ensure that all offenders are brought to book,” he emphasised, while urging the youth and traders to desist from engaging in drug-related activities.
