Isaac Kwakye Asare speaking to journalists
The Safety Manager of Justmoh Construction Company Limited, Isaac Kwakye Asare, has bemoaned the incessant attacks on workers of the company currently working on the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta road in the Western Region.
Mr. Asare asserted that some residents in communities along the road have been attacking the construction workers, particularly when some of the lanes are closed to traffic around their respective areas.
He indicated that because of the attacks, the workers are currently working in fear and panic.
He has, therefore, called on the law enforcement agency and other stakeholders to, as a matter of urgency, intervene to ensure the safety of the workers so that they would be able to complete the project on time.
Speaking to journalists in an interview, the Safety Manager disclosed that the first attack happened in July 2025 at Bokoro in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.
He explained that at that time, the company had closed a lane it was working on and opened the opposite lane to traffic.
He, however, indicated that some motorbike and tricycle riders from the area removed the diversion signs and were using the lane closed to traffic.
He said, “What they were doing was destroying the asphalt we had put on the road. So the construction workers insisted they will not allow them use that closed lane.”
According to the Safety Manager, what he gathered was that on July 4, 2025, some of the tricycle drivers and youth of the area, wielding clubs and cutlasses, attacked the construction workers and severely injured some of them.
He said those injured were taken to the hospital, and the company subsequently reported the case to the police.
He told journalists that the second attack occurred on January 30, 2026, at Biaho, also in the Ahanta West Municipality.
He said the company’s pick-up vehicle and a tricycle driver were travelling in the same direction towards Agona-Nkwanta in the municipality.
He stated, “All of a sudden, the tricycle maneuvered abruptly into the lane of the company’s pick-up vehicle around a median opening.”
“So there was a minor crash which made the tricycle summersault. Eyewitnesses said later the youth in the area mobilised themselves and attacked the company’s workers with clubs and cutlasses,” he stressed.
He pointed out that the case was duly reported to the police, and was hopeful that the perpetrators would be arrested to face the law.
Meanwhile, the Project Manager of Justmoh Construction, Johan Prinsloo, disclosed that the dual carriageway included four new bridges.
He revealed that all the major earth and concrete works as well as culverts have been completed.
“The only work outstanding is a 3 kilometre road currently ongoing in communities such as Apowa, Bokoro, Ewusiejo and Aboade,” he added.
He also revealed that all the Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) have been made by the government, and was hopeful that the project would be completed in the middle of this year.
