The company confirmed his passing in a statement, saying he “passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer,” and requested privacy for his family.

Leonid, who was born in Ukraine and raised in Chicago, acquired OnlyFans in 2018 from its UK-based founders. Under his leadership, the platform saw rapid growth, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, which propelled him onto Forbes’ list of billionaires within three years.

Founded in 2016, OnlyFans allows creators to share content ranging from fitness and cooking to adult material, with users paying subscription fees or tips. The platform is widely known for its role in transforming the online adult entertainment industry by enabling direct interaction between creators and subscribers.

According to its latest filings, the company generated $1.4 billion in revenue in 2024 and had over 377 million subscribers, with about 4.6 million creators producing content on the platform. OnlyFans takes a 20 per cent commission on earnings.

Leonid was a graduate of Northwestern University and also invested in technology ventures through his Florida-based firm, Leo.com. The company noted that he supported several philanthropic initiatives globally, although details were not disclosed.
