Philanthropist Constructs 300-Bed Girls’ Dormitory For Nkyeraa SHS

The newly constructed dormitory

A new 300-capacity girls’ dormitory block has been officially commissioned and handed over to the Nkyeraa Senior High School (SHS) to address accommodation challenges.

The completed block houses 300 students and includes 19 washrooms, a recreational hall, residential apartments for two housemistresses, ceiling fans for ventilation, and a spacious compound for student activities.

The GH¢3.85 million facility was funded by Madam Grace Jemima Antwi, who described the project as a “symbol of hope, opportunity, and commitment” to student welfare.

According to her, the intervention follows an earlier engagement with school authorities, during which she learned that boys and girls were sharing the same dormitory block.

In a speech read on her behalf by Kwasi Frimpong, she said the dormitory is the second major project undertaken in Nchiraa, following the completion of a Pentecost Church project years earlier.

She acknowledged her two sons, Kingsley Antwi, who serves as Chairman of the School Board, and Isaac Kwame Antwi, as well as her family members for their encouragement throughout the project.

Madam Antwi urged management, staff, and students to ensure the facility is properly managed and maintained for future generations. She encouraged students to use the building as motivation to work towards their academic and personal goals, stressing that improved accommodation would foster a safer, more comfortable, and disciplined learning environment.

She further announced scholarships for five best students from the school to further their education this year.

Stakeholders at the event were called upon to continue partnering with the government and educational institutions to expand access to quality education.

Madam Antwi prayed that the facility would contribute to academic excellence, discipline, unity, and the personal growth of students at Nkyeraa Senior High School.

Management of the school expressed gratitude to the philanthropist for the gesture, describing the dormitory as a major boost to the development of the school.

The Headmistress of the school noted that inadequate accommodation had been one of the major challenges affecting students over the years, adding that the new dormitory would greatly ease congestion and improve student welfare.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Wenchi, Alhaji Seidu Haruna, commended Madam Antwi for the kind gesture and promised to add more developmental projects, such as GETFund projects, as well as beef up security in the school.

He advised the students to desist from illicit behaviours like drug abuse and focus on their education.

Some students who spoke to the media also expressed excitement over the new facility, saying it would provide them with comfort, security and a better learning environment.

The event was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Wenchi, Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, and the Deputy Education Director for Bono Region, Benjamin Siripi Quartson.
