First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo in a group photograph with the chief and elders of Abam and Kumikrom communities
First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo yesterday received a high-powered delegation from the chief and elders of Abam and Kumikrom communities in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region.
The visit by the group was to show appreciation to the mother of the land for honouring her word of renovating the then dilapidated clinic in the community during the 2016 general election campaign.
The clinic which serves Abam and its surrounding communities was in a bad state during the visit of the first lady who was in the community to campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016.
Going around the community, the first lady observed that the clinic which serves hundreds of people needed renovation. She, thus, promised to do what is needed to get the clinic back to its original state.
“True to her words, she called me to bring an estimate of the cost of renovation which I did and true to her words, she renovated the clinic for us,” Sampson Akyeh, principal elder of Abam, said.
Speaking on behalf of the people of Abam, elder Akyeh stated that chief of Abam, Nana Abam V, and his people thought it wise to come and show appreciation to Mrs Akufo-Addo for being a woman of her words.
“So if we are here today we want to say thank you for renovating our clinic for us,” he mentioned.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Upper East Akim District, speaking on behalf of the district, thanked the first lady once again for her kind gesture but indicated the community is challenged on many sides.
He said although 98 percent of the roads in the community are feeder roads, they are deplorable, making the transport of farm products to major market centres difficult.
“Some of our school buildings also need renovation so as we are before the mother of the land we have come to ask for more,” he said.
Mrs Akufo-Addo, in response, was grateful to the people of Abam for showing their appreciation. She assured them that the NPP government was working tirelessly to make sure every Ghanaian benefits from the national cake.
She said the NPP was working to fulfill every promise made to Ghanaians, citing the free SHS which has commenced across the country.
The first lady assured the people of Abam to work towards addressing the new challenges they have brought to her attention.
