Otobour Djan Kwasi II
THE Eastern Regional House of Chiefs – Judicial Committee – has summoned the Aburihene, Otobour Djan Kwasi II, to appear before them today (Wednesday) over some contemptuous comments he allegedly made against the Akropong chieftaincy case which is currently ongoing at the House of Chiefs.
In his remarks at his 30th anniversary celebration recently, Otobour Djan Kwasi II allegedly commanded the Judicial Committee to immediately scrap the case before it.
The Aburihene, who doubles as the Adontenhene of the Akropong Traditional Council, stated that it is a queen who appoints a chief, which implied that the matter before the House of Chiefs to ascertain whether it is the queen or the Abrewatia who appoints a chief is needless.
He reportedly said, “It is the queen who appoints a chief. It is so everywhere. Which of the chiefs present here did not pass through the hands of their queens? This is not an issue of contempt. Cut off this case immediately. That is the work of the queen. Let there be peace at Akwapem!”
To some, the comments made by the Aburihene were denigrating and undermined the authority of the Regional House of Chiefs. They are therefore asking the Judicial Committee to summon the Aburihene to retract his remarks and apologise in court for making those “unguarded” comments.
Eventually, the Judicial Committee presided over by Okotwaresuo Kantamanto Agyeman, Chief of Akyem Swedru, ruled that Otubour Djan Kwasi be summoned to appear before it on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 11am prompt.
Daily Guide’s attempts to speak to the Aburihene for his reaction on Tuesday proved futile.
