Kwesi Amoafo-Yeboah addressing the media at the launch
The Accra Open golf competition, the biggest on the capital’s golfing calendar, returns after close to five years absence.
And at its grand launch by the Achimota Golf Club and Club Nineteen on Wednesday, it announced a mammoth amount of  GH¢100,000 as prize for the pros as well as goodies for the amateurs.
It is expected to tee-off from November 17-21, at the top-class Achimota Golf Course, with a total of 70 professional golfers from across the African continent expected to battle for supremacy.
The anticipated uncompromising tournament  is themed ‘Road to Recovery’ and it  will also involve contests in four amateur categories.
The categories include the Men Group A for players with handicaps 12 and below; the Men Support Group for players with handicaps between 13 and 18; the Ladies, for players with 20 and below and the Ladies Support Group for players with handicaps between 21 and 30.
Captain of the Achimota Golf Club Kwesi Amoafo-Yeboah said the organisers had pulled all the stops to ensure the successful return of the high profile tournament
A member of the Organising Committee of the tournament, René Gameli Kwame said the organisers were expecting about 70 pros  from across the African continent to participate in the contest.
He said there would be a live collation of scores through real-time video coverage and indicated that  registration of interested golfers which was ongoing online at – www.accraopen.com – requires golfers to pay their registration fees upfront after completing the process.
Deadline for payment of the registration fee is 12 midnight on November 10, 2021.
Martell, Labadi Beach Hotel, Jaguar, Landrover, Obsidian Archernar and Total Ghana are the sponsors for this year’s event.
