Accra Symphony Orchestra and Lumina
The much-awaited concert dubbed ‘Accra Goes To The Opera’, being organised by Accra Symphony Orchestra (ASO), will take place this Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the International Conference Centre (AICC) at 6:30pm.
The Accra Symphony Orchestra has promised to give patrons who will grace the event a memorable night with good performances.
The event seeks to make a statement to the world that Africa has come of age to appreciate classical music and also be able to interpret it in its own African way by the group doing African songs the operatic way.
The evening will feature a three-act concert; the first is the classical sections that will predominantly exhibit classical music that have become a staple of pop culture.
The second is the crossover section which will include classical crossover songs like ‘Canto Della Tera’ and ‘Nella Fantasia’ and the third act which is the tribute section to African giants will feature songs like Nana Danso Abiam’s ‘Sompa’, Fele Kuti’s ‘Lady’, among others.
The Accra Symphony Orchestra and Lumina are hopeful that this concert would make the audience appreciate and fall in love with operatic music and leave a giant footprint for younger musicians to step into.
It would, among other things, take the baton from musicians who have been working hard on the Ghanaian music landscape by harnessing their musical works.
